Travel Light, Pack Right: Introducing ULA Packing Cubes
Two Bundles, Built for the Dragonfly
We designed two bundles to pair perfectly with our best-selling Dragonfly backpacks—the 30L and the 36L. The 30L bundle includes two large cubes, while the 36L bundle features two large cubes plus a shoe cube, offering a bit more room for longer or more gear-heavy trips. These are compatible with all fabric options and styles of Dragonfly pack including the Ultra Passthru.
Each large cube measures 11” x 13” x 3.25” and holds 7.62 liters, while the shoe cube is 13” x 7” x 5”, comfortably fitting shoes up to size 12 US with a total volume of 7.46 liters. Both bundles are made with 210D UltraGrid fabric from Challenge Sailcloth—an ultralight, abrasion-resistant material designed to handle the bumps and bruises of real travel while looking good in the process.
Why UltraGrid? UltraGrid™ from Challenge Sailcloth is a next-generation technical fabric built for strength, lightness, and long-term durability. Woven with 210-denier recycled nylon and reinforced with a ripstop UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) grid, it’s abrasion-resistant, water-repellent, and crazy tough for its weight. Whether you’re on the trail, in the airport, or living out of your bag, UltraGrid keeps your gear protected without adding unnecessary bulk. UltraGrid™ fabric is free from PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). It utilizes a C0 durable water repellent (DWR) coating that does not contain toxic perfluorocarbons (PFCs), commonly referred to as “forever chemicals.” This eco-friendly approach ensures that UltraGrid™ offers water resistance without the environmental and health concerns associated with traditional DWR treatments.
What Fits? Real Packing, Real Results
When testing the real world results of what all these liters and measurements mean we found the simple answer is: 6 days of clothes before you need a laundry stop. One large cube held six large T-shirts, six pairs of socks, and six pairs of underwear with room to breathe. The second carried two pairs of pants, two pairs of shorts, and two button-down shirts, giving you enough outfit options for a six-day trip with zero stress. This loadout also leaves plenty of room in the pack for bulkier stuff like jackets, electronics, toiletries and your laptop.
Need more space? Go with the 36L bundle. It’s a smart choice for those planning to outfit their Camino pack or prepping for longer treks. The shoe cube alone is a game changer—no more jamming dusty trail runners next to clean clothes. The shoe cube also doubles as a great catch-all for things like electronics, make-up, or anything else you need to carry in an organized manner.
We used the rolling method while packing out the cubes. Essentially it’s exactly how it sounds, fold shirts, underwear, or legwear in half longways one time, then roll from there. If you’re taking a nicer button down, we recommend folding them to fit the size of the cube to prevent as many wrinkles as possible. We also recommend wrinkle free oxford shirts for that reason if that’s the vibe you’re going for. Sleeping on the floor at the Kuala Lumpur airport and realizing you experienced a time change you weren’t accounting for, but still managed to wake up right at the end of your flight boarding to make it on time is stressful(and has happened to us) but at least we looked good in our wrinkle-free oxford shirt.
The sequence below showcases the 30L bundle in photo 1, how it fits inside of a 30L Dragonfly in photo 2, and how it fits in a 36L Dragonfly in photo 3. Please note that when packing the cubes, for the most efficient fit, stack the large cubes on top of one another when packing.

Light as Air, Tough as Nails
At just 6 oz for the 30L bundle and 8.5 oz for the 36L, these cubes keep things featherweight, yet the quality is anything but flimsy. The mesh face panel allows you to see what’s inside without opening them, and the full-zip design means no digging or dumping when you’re trying to find that one elusive sock.
They slip into your pack like a glove, stack neatly, and feel like they were custom-built for your journey—because they were.
An Unexpected Luxury
Sometimes travel throws you a curveball—like an unexpected night sleeping in an airport. When that happens, your ULA Packing Cubes double as a soft pillow, giving you a bit of comfort when you need it most. It’s just one more way they’re designed to support your journey beyond their primary job of organization.
The Final Word
ULA Packing Cubes are the kind of gear you don’t realize you need—until you use them. Then you wonder how you ever traveled without them. They’re simple, intentional, and built to support a better way to move through the world.
So go ahead—pack smarter, move lighter, and travel further with the gear that’s built for the journey ahead. Feel free to reach out with any questions about our new packing cubes.
Any chance you plan on manufacturing these in lighter/brighter colors …. when I unzip my black Dragonfly, I want to quickly identify the cube I need
Yes, are there any particular colors you’re most interested in?
So. How do I order the Dragonfly 36L bundle? I saw a “buy” link earlier but it is gone!
