Q: What exactly is this?
[Answer]
A: The rain wrap is a simple solution for lightweight, ventilated weather protection. More specifically, it is a silicon impregnated nylon skirt.
Q: Why is the Rain Wrap a better choice than rain pants?
[Answer]
A: I prefer the Rain Wrap to waterproof / water resistant pants for a number of reasons. Weight is certainly one consideration. As far as I know, there are no pants on the market that only weigh 2.5 oz. Secondly, the rain wrap can be worn in a few different manners to maximize both weather resistance and breathability, so I find it more functional than pants. In addition, I find movement in rainwear to be restrictive. Being a skirt, the Rain Wrap is not restrictive at all. Lastly, the Rain Wrap is MUCH easier to remove or put on than pants. This makes the Rain Wrap very convenient in tempramental weather.
Q: How adjustable is it?
[Answer]
A: The Rain Wrap easily adjusts at the waist with by tensioning the flat elastic band with a cordlock.
Q: How much 'bulk' exists at the waistband? Will it be uncomfortable with a hipbelt?
[Answer]
A: I prefer to wear my Rain Wrap with the elastic and barrel lock tensioner just above my hipbelt. When worn in that manner, there is no noticeable bulk between your hipbelt and base layer.
Q:How else can you use the Rain Wrap?
[Answer]
A: There are loops at each of the four corners which allows the Rain Wrap to be staked as a groundsheet, or as additional flooring in a tarp or tent vestibule to keep gear clean. In addition, the Rain Wrap works well as a 'modesty' wrap when doing laundry at a re-supply.
