Q: How effective is the filter at removing contaminants? What about viruses?
[Answer]
A: I am happy to say that I am now using a Katadyn filter in the Amigo Pro. Katadyn is consistently recognized as producing very high quality water filters that are used throughout the world in both recreational and industrial applications. By using the Katadyn filter cartridge its removable filter protector and pre-filter, the Amigo Pro effectively removes waterborne contaminants to assure quality drinking water. To eliminate viruses, you would need some sort of chemical treatment in additional to standard filtration. The Amigo Pro does not remove viruses.
Q: Will my hands get wet when I try to fill the water bag?
[Answer]
A: Depending on the water source, your hands may or may not get wet. I find the water bag is easiest (and driest) to fill from a small cascade of water in a stream or rivulet. Typically you can simple hold the handles and angle the small opening beneath the cascade until the bag is full. If you are filling the water bag in standing water, you will likely have to 'dunk' the filter bag using your free hand.
Q: How long will the filter last?
[Answer]
A: 200 Gallons is the outlined filter lifespan. Of course this is dependent upon the clarity of the water you are filtering.
Q: How likely am I to find a place to hang the Amigo Pro?
[Answer]
A: I have never NOT been able to find a place to suspend the Amigo --- in deserts or treeless alpine landscapes, I've always managed to find some set up that works. Necessity is the mother of invention. If you are concerned, then be sure to check out the Hang Cord which is available as an Amigo accessory.
